The Plastics Historical Society
Plastics are a recently developed material that has infiltrated everyday modern life, from the clear plastic containers our food and drink come in to the toys our children play with. However, just because the history of plastics only covers about 150 years doesn’t mean that there aren’t people who feel that it should be both studied and celebrated.
Founded in 1986, the goal of the Plastics Historical Society is to celebrate the heritage of plastic. Although it operates out of London, the PHS has an international membership from all walks of life, including educators and professionals from the plastics industry. The only requirement is an interest in polymers.
The PHS even operates a museum, although the Society’s website says that it is currently being redesigned. While we don’t know if they use plastic die cast display cases to show off their collections of vintage pieces, it would certainly be appropriate.
